Hack

Last November Youtube announced that they were testing out encoding videos at higher resolutions (with better audio as well). To access the higher quality video, all you have to do is add a small "tag" to the end of the existing video URLs. Try adding "&fmt=6" to the end of the address line and you can bump the resolution from 320x240 to 448x336. Add "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL, and you might get an MP4-encoded version, with better audio and a 480x360 resolution. Note: This works best with recent videos.

Tired of receiving spam after signing up for an online service? Create a disposable email account on the fly. When you're giving out your email, just make one up on the spot, end it with @trashymail.com. You can check your inbox, no password required, at www.mytrashmail.com. Note: There is a more secure temporary trashmail service that is password protected.

One of the fastest ways to get a corporation to stop hassling you about their products / services is to make yourself an expensive target. For example, next time you get a new credit card application, take out the return envelop marked "no postage necessary" and cram it full of [heavy] stuff. The credit card company will have to pay the postage on that envelope when they receive it and chances are when they find it filled with: rocks, dirt, other junk mail, trash, etc... They will remove you from their list ASAP. Special Delivery!

Google searches are very easy to decode and as such, they are often monitored. For example, when you type "private equity jobs new york" into the google search bar, the resulting url looks like this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Private+Equity+Jobs+New+York&btnG=Google+Search -- not too hard to figure out what you are up to. Luckily our friends at Digital Inspiration found a workaround, in fact they found 10. Check out their full post here. Happy Searching!

For Excel workbook or worksheet passwords, you can use Excel Password Remover 2008 to crack the code. The freeware is very well designed and integrates right into the existing Excel menu. Note: This free download will not work for file protection passwords or VBA passwords. Use Excel Key for file protection cracks and VBA Keyfor VBA password hacks. Now that you're in, the work can begin!

Knowing this you can read webpages through email without requiring a direct web connection -or- check out the front page of your favorite blocked website. The email address that makes all this possible is: www@web2mail.com - simply send an email with the url of the web page of interest in the subject field (ex: www.cnn.com) and within seconds you will find a copy of that web page in your inbox. This is a perfect solution when web access is blocked or severely restricted. Trickery at its best!

Chances are you and your friends can't pull off buying childrens tickets at the movie theater ticket window. However, if you purchase your tickets ahead of time using Fandango.com, you can buy any type of ticket you want. Nine times out of ten, the person ripping the tickets isn't paying attention and you can walk straight through (note: this usually works best if you buy at least one adult ticket and have the childrens tickets underneath). Now that you saved a few bucks, you can buy some over-priced movie theater food.

You can use copyright protected images on your website as long as the size is right. Google was recently named in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Perfect 10 for displaying thumbnail images from Perfect10.com. However, because the pictures had a length between 80-200 pixels, they were considered to be in "fair use". According to an article in the LA Times, "Fair use is a defense that allows the use of copyrighted works, under certain circumstances, without the owner's consent." Resize any picture you want and post it on your website worry-free!

Next time you want to purchase something online that requires a credit card but don't want to sign up for the recurring subscription charges; request a temporary credit card number from your bank. Now-a-days most big banks (ex: Citibank) offer disposable credit card numbers for one time purchases. Sign-up and within minutes you will be provided with a temporary card number that will allow you to purchase your item(s) without having to worry about canceling subscriptions. When the merchant tries to re-bill your credit card, their charge will be denied because the card is no longer valid. Pay for what you want, not what they want!

Need to get more than 4 oz. of liquid through airport security? It's as simple as putting the liquid container(s) in your pocket. This is because the metal detectors cannot detect liquids. Next time you need to take contact lens solution, tooth paste, gel, etc. on a plane and you don't have a tiny 4 oz. container, simply slip it into your pocket. It'll be our little secret.

Did you know that you can read WSJ articles without paying the annual subscription fee as long as they are "dugg"? Previously there were a couple of complicated hacks, but now it's super easy. You can get free access to the entire Wall Street Journal article when you visit the WSJ web page via digg.  Simply subscribe to the following RSS feed and get ready to read.
Note: Those want more specific WSJ content, can modify the search parameters as discussed on lifehacker.com.

Simultaneously press the button for your floor and the close door button and you will go straight to the floor selected without picking anyone else up. For example, if you work on the 12th floor, press [12] + close Door [>|<] simultaneously.....Ding, welcome to the 12th floor. This works on most Otis, Dover and Desert elevators on the way up or down.

Don't worry; this loophole isn't too nerdy, too technical or too hard for the average person. Assuming you use Firefox for your browser, follow the simple steps detailed below and you will be surfing the web much faster than before.

  • Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return
  • Scroll down and look for the following entries and alter appropriately

    • Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
    • Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
    • Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to a number like 30 -- Firefox will now make 30 requests at once whereas before it would only make one request at a time

  • Lastly right-click anywhere and select New -> Integer

    • Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0" (time the browser waits before it acts on information received)

That's it, you are done, type in your favorite website and surf at speeds previously hidden from you!

Remove the sticker that says the camera cannot be connected to a computer or tv and you will expose a data port. You need a cable with a Palm series m100 connector on one end (plugs into camera) and a USB type-b connector on the other end (connects to computer). The cable can be bought on ebay, or you can learn how to make the cable yourself by googling "camera hacking". Lastly, download two small pieces of free software: (i) PV2 tools and (ii) Clear2Receive. Connect the camera to your computer and you are free to adjust any and all settings.
